Videogame Releases: Week of August 28th, 2011

It’s another slow week for videogames without too much new coming out except for a First Person Shooter by Codemasters, which is pretty, you know, blah. But if you’re into football – and based on sales, much of the videogame playing world is – there’s a little franchise called ‘Madden’ that may pique your interest. It’s a gritty, underground indie game that I think has real potential for some sequels!

Madden 12 (360, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii)

I feel like I’ve milked the “You can watch some footballers football each other” gag enough for one lifetime, so here are the details without any sort of dressing up. ‘Madden 12’ brings new plays to table, and updates the rules to be in line with those of the NFL.

The latest installment also introduces bidding during the pre-season, which makes franchise mode quite a bit more interesting. You can trade for future draft picks as well. If you play sports games like I do – skip the actual games and play through franchise mode like an RPG – then you’ll love some of these added features.

Bodycount (360)

All right, look. Before you get all excited, you should know that this game is in no way related to the ’90s thrash metal band of the same name. Ice-T isn’t involved at all, and it’s unclear whether you can become a cop killer.

‘Bodycount’ is a First Person Shooter from the Codmasters Guilford studio. It has destructible environments, power-ups, and a different take on the traditional cover system. You’ve got a few weeks before ‘Gears of War 3’ comes out, so this might hold you over.
