Videogame Releases: Week of April 1st, 2012

It looks like April is going to be a slow month for new videogames. Sorry, folks. Here’s hoping some sweet ‘Rock Band’ DLC or groovy iOS/Android games unexpectedly come down the pike as the studios developing for consoles and PC seem to be working on bigger releases. Otherwise, you’ll have to buckle down for what is sure to be the most exciting videogame release week of the month, which is obviously not saying much

Kinect Star Wars (XBOX 360)

The George Lucas ‘Star Wars’ cash wringing continues with what might have been the game that finally lets you truly wield a lightsaber to run wild slicing up baddies. Alas, many early peaks and trailers for ‘Kinect Star Wars‘ make it look silly at best, and horrifying at worst. The game has several modes that include the lightsaber stuff, “Rancor Rampage,” “Podracing” and “Galatic Dance Off.” Lightsaber stuff comes across as being ho-hum, and I foresee lots of knocked over plants and small children from it. The trailer makes the Podracing controls seem extremely awkward, and the Galactic Dance Off is one of the most terrifying ‘Star Wars’ things I have ever seen. On the other hand, stomping stuff as a Rancor has some appeal, but I feel like it would be better served as a $0.99 download for my phone.

Devil May Cry HD Collection (PS3, XBOX 360)

In what is now pretty standard for any series that once had any popularity, ‘Devil May Cry‘ is getting the refresh treatment. I never got into Capcom’s series that started back in the early 2000s with the PS2. This collection will contain ‘Devil May Cry’ parts 1, 2 and 3.

  1. Awww, come on, Galactic Dance looks fun! Just what I always wanted to do – control how Leah in her skimpy outfit dances! I guarentee you, there will be a lot of 40 and 50 year old males picking this game up! As for me, I am glad I don’t own a Kinect!
