Videogame Releases for the Week of May 3, 2010

It’s not the most thrilling week for console gaming.  Every system gets the dismal ‘Iron Man 2’, the Wii gets plenty of shovelware, and the DS gets plenty of puzzle games.  It’s a down week for everyone, except PSP owners.

What Did I Do To Deserve This, My Lord?! 2 (PSP)

Not only is it one of the best games coming out this week, but it wins the award for “Most Complicated Game Title Since ‘I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1.” ‘ What Did I Do ToDeserve This, My Lord?! 2′ is a sequel to a game you may have played, or heard of, called ‘Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman!’

‘Lord 2,’ as I’ll be calling it to conserve space, is a JRPG fan’s dream come true.  Like the brilliant ‘Dungeon Keeper,’ ‘Lord 2’ puts you on the other side of things, creating a dungeon to trap and destroy incoming heroes.  It’s also funny, and chock full of references that only hardcore JRPG fans will get.  If you’ve got a PSP and a penchant for role playing games with spiky haired heroes, this is one not to miss.

Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake (PSP)

If you own a PS3, hopefully you’ve played the first ‘Fat Princess’ game.  It’s clever, hectic, and exhilarating.  Its capture-the-flag style game play on a massive scale.  Each team is made of 8 to 12 players and each controls one unit.  The goal, simply, is to capture the opposing team’s princess by carrying her back to your base.

In order to prevent your princess from being taken, you can feed her cake, making her fatter, heavier, and harder to lift.  The fatter the princess, the slower the other team will move while trying to take her.  It’s a brilliant game, but it’s let down a bit by the platform.  There are a few multiplayer hitches on the PSP version that the PS3 didn’t suffer from.  Still, if you’re hoping to take part in some fast paced multiplayer action, ‘Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake’ is a must have.

Zeno Clash (Xbox 360)

The critically acclaimed PC game is finally making its way to the Xbox 360, and it’s coming straight through the Xbox Live Arcade.  It’s only 1200 points for the full game, but you’ll want to download the demo.  ‘Zeno Clash’ is one of those games that you’ll either love or hate, there’s not a lot of in-between.

The developers, ACE Team, took a real risk with this game.  First person shooters are commonplace, but ‘Zeno Clash’ is a first person brawler.   It’s bizarre looking, the gameplay is unlike anything attempted on this large a scale before and it definitely lacks polish.  But it’s one of those games you absolutely need to try.
