Videogame Releases: Week of September 5th, 2010

It’s not a bad week to be a gamer. Xbox fans get a great arcade title and just about every system around gets a potentially great ‘Spider-Man’ game. However, the biggest stuff this week is for the PSP.

Plants vs. Zombies (360)

You know how I feel about zombies, especially when it comes to videogames. ‘Plants vs. Zombies’ gets grandfathered in, since it was originally released for the PC back in May of 2009. It’s a tower defense game with zombies that starts oh-so-simply and ramps up smoothly. I’ve personally put a ridiculous amount of time into the Steam version, and highly recommend giving this a shot. It’s available tomorrow on the Xbox Live Arcade.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (360, DS, PS3, Wii)

It’s really hard to tell when it comes to ‘Spider-Man’ games. Some are good, some are bad, and others vary by platform. ‘Web of Shadows’ was pretty terrible for the big systems, but is still one of my favorite DS games. I gave it one hell of a positive review. So when it comes to ‘Shattered Dimensions,’ you might want to rent before shelling out your hard earned cash.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (PSP)

If you’re not sold on the ‘Kingdom Hearts’ series yet, this one’s not going to change your mind. It features the same Disney and Square Enix mash-up theme all in one action RPG wrapper. You’ll see a few new Disney characters and some familiar faces from the ‘Final Fantasy’ series as well. If you’re a fan of JRPGs, you definitely owe it to yourself to give this a shot, because it features the game-making talents of Tetsuya Nomura, the man behind some of the best.
