TV Madness: Buffy vs. Cameron

The TV Madness Final Four is almost set. We’ll let the Reynolds versus Bauer match-up simmer a little longer before declaring a winner. That battle is still pretty close at this point. There have been some surprises during this tournament, and it’s all come down to this. Let’s find out which characters make it to the finals.

The most interesting thing to me is that three of the last four characters have turned out to be females. I knew that women would do well in this tournament, but I didn’t know that they’d comprise of a whopping 75% of the characters in the Final Four. Women have had some real staying power, and now we get to have our first all-estrogen fight since this tournament began.

Buffy Summers – Nobody else came into this tournament with as strong a cult following, except maybe Malcolm Reynolds. However, Reynolds’ show only had one measly season to build up its cult status, while Buffy had several. It’s not like she doesn’t deserve to be here, though. Buffy has seen her fair share of crazy-ass encounters with otherworldly demons and vampires, and somehow always came out on top. Those superpowers came in handy every once in a while.

Cameron – Not enough can be said about the benefits of being a kick-ass Terminator from the future who’s also easy on the eyes. Cameron blazed her way through the competition and now faces the one person who could give her trouble. Still, she’s had an amazing run and even took out the Hulk. She knows what she’s doing.

Final Word: Personally, I’m leaning toward Cameron here. Did Buffy ever battle futuristic killer cyborgs? Really, I’m asking; I never watched the show, so I wouldn’t know. [Ed.: Yes, Buffy has taken out a robot or two in her time. -JZ] Buffy has proved successful during her run in the tournament, but out of her four opponents, she hasn’t faced one person that had superhuman powers. She’s simply gone up against mere mortals until now. While Vic Mackey may have had the power of “The Scariest Bald Man Ever,” Buffy still mopped the floor with him. Now she faces a new foe, one she might not have any experience fighting, whereas Cameron doesn’t care who she’s fighting so long as she’s killing something real good. I think Cameron gets the better of Buffy here. What do you think?

Yeah, Buffy took out a good number of Cyborgs and robots and what-have-you. Buffy wins hands down!

Yeah, to clarify: Buffy not only has cyborg-beating experience, she has human/demon-cyborg-beating experience. Cameron’s tough stuff, but she’s no novelty in Buffy’s world.

I’m sure it would be a hard-fought battle, but I lean toward Buffy. Later, after the tournament, she’ll get Willow to repair and reprogram the bot, and then they can kick ass together.

I am torn on this one. I mean, Cameron is one kick-a#@ cyborg, but other Terminators were taken out by mear mortals (I haven’t watched enough of the show to knwo if Cameron was ever taken out – the shows are sitting on my shelf still in shrink-wrap). Buffy may have a real chance here. I voted Cameron, but this could go either way.

  4. Buffy has not only defeated plenty of robots and cyborgs (including a robot version of herself), she defeated a frikkin’ GOD.

Cameron put up a good fight so far, and this is a worthy battle, but Buffy will ultimately prevail, as she always does. She saves the world. A lot.

Yeah, the more I think of it, the more I am thinking I should have voted Buffy. Maybe I voted Cameron because she is hotter.

I’d go so far as saying Xander was a superior military leader to John Connor as well.

Going with Cameron! The unstoppable killing machine.

The cyborgs Buffy took out were tinker toys in comparison to Cameron.

Well, there was Moloch the Corruptor (the demon that took over the internet and then built a robot body) Ted (John Ritter wife-beater bot), Adam (Frankenstein/cyborg/supersoldier/all of the demons) there was Warren’s sex robot and later the robot version of Buffy herself. Did I miss anything? Terminators mostly fight with guns, which Adam tried, and “Combo-Buffy” dodged the bullets and stopped them mid air matrix-style and then turned them into doves. Sorry but Cameron would be screwed.

I am actually really surprised with current results. Yeah, I voted for Cameron, but I seriously did not think she would be this far ahead. In fact, I was expecting Buffy to win this by a landslide.

Still, I really want to see the two cyborgs go up against each other in the finals. In fact, I want to read some fan fiction about that one!

Actually, I want to read fan fiction about Cameron versus Buffy too!

  7. I’m surprised Buffy isn’t winning. Like William, I voted Cameron, but mainly because I always found Buffy so annoying. 😉

Then again, I think the big difference here is not only which series is more recent, but the actresses. Geller has somewhat distanced herself from Buffy and genre shows (unless you count… ahem… Scooby Doo). Whereas Glau has very much embraced her success and fans in the SF and associated genres. So she’s built up quite a loyal fanbase, I reckon. I think that’s why she’s winning.

Can’t say I have a problem with that. 😉 She’s fun to watch, as opposed to just playing a whiny teen with super powers(even when she was post-teen!).
