The Trailer Park: Killers and Robbers

In the movie trailers that we look at today, a pair of Autumn thrillers try to warm up the season with some suspense and action. How well will they immerse audiences into the world of hardened criminals?

‘Deadfall’

As much as I like Eric Bana, I just can’t muster much interest in seeing this. I’m intrigued by the presence of Olivia Wilde, Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson, but for some reason, the movie also feels rather dry and hollow. We’ve seen this type of story about criminals making a run for the border after a major robbery countless times before. So, I’m left wondering if the hostage drama is really enough to keep my attention. Perhaps the trailer just does a poor job of selling the movie? It leaves me cold.

‘Killing Them Softly’

I’m a sucker for previews that pair Johnny Cash songs with cool visuals. This movie could turn out to be utter garbage in the end, but the trailer has won me over nevertheless. I’m digging the visual design and photography, which feel like some ’70s low-budget flick full of sleazeballs. The film has a strange black comedy edge that’s also appealing, along with Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini acting menacing in a weirdly droll way. I’m interested to see what Andrew Dominik (‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’) can do with the material, that’s for sure.
