Before we dive into the season finale of ‘Bates Motel’, we should take a moment to send kudos in the direction of creator Anthony Cipriano and executive producers/writers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin for reimagining Hitchcock’s classic movie in a way that both honors the original story and opens up the mythology for brand-new horror. There have been a handful of poor attempts to reboot ‘Psycho‘ over the years, but ‘Bates Motel’ is the first time anyone has gotten it right.

This may be the end. ABC has aired the final two episodes of ‘Happy Endings’ Season 3. These may be the final two episodes of the series forever, unless ABC offers a last minute renewal, or USA or TBS snaps the show up. If these are to be the end, at least they’re not a bad way to go out – with some slapstick and a whole lot of whimsy.

Given the utterly bizarre way that the first season of ‘American Horror Story’ drew to a close, I had no idea what to expect from the Season 2 finale, but braced myself for something that might pull the rug out from under the whole ‘Asylum’ storyline. Now that I’ve finally caught up with the last episode, I’ve found that it does just about the last thing I would’ve guessed. It provides an actual ending and fairly straightforward closure for most of the characters.

The end is here. After five years of ups and downs (more downs than ups recently, unfortunately), ‘Fringe’ aired its two-part series finale on Friday. For as negatively as I’ve felt about the show this season, I’m surprised to admit that the finale actually ties a lot of things together. But does it bring the series to a fully satisfying conclusion? That much is still up for debate.

‘True Blood’ 5.12 Recap: “Us or Them”

‘True Blood’ brought its fifth season to a close this past Sunday, a fact that most fans probably approached with some trepidation. Unfortunately, the show has a history of botching its premieres and finales. As I recall, however, the fourth season finale wasn’t so bad, and neither was the current season’s premiere. Perhaps this is just a case of lowered expectations, but an upgrade from “awful” to “not so bad” is an improvement I’ll gladly take.
