Posterizing: A Melancholy Moonrise

Posterizing: A Melancholy Moonrise

I wish I had a bigger house, or more wall space. I just don’t have enough room to hang all the posters that I really love. Check out this week’s new posters for theatrical releases, and also a few special event posters that I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on.

Sundance Journal: ‘The Words’

Sundance Journal: ‘The Words’

‘The Words’ is on track to becoming a highly-popular film that will be loved and appreciated by both the indie and mainstream crowds. The story is great, the filmmaking is solid and the performances are top notch. With a little editing and perhaps a short reshoot to extend one scene, I could see ‘The Words’ being next year’s Oscar bait.

Sundance Journal: ‘Goats’

While the film isn’t terrible, the one thing that I walked away with after seeing ‘Goats’ was the desire to never watch another coming-of-age tale again. The things that work in the film are the characters. What doesn’t work is the generic, by-the-book, seen-it-one-hundred-times-before story.

Sundance Journal: ‘For A Good Time, Call…’

Sundance Journal: ‘John Dies at the End’

I’m still weirded out by ‘John Dies at the End’. If there’s ever been a movie that felt like ‘Supernatural’ on acid, but produced by the Syfy Channel, this is it.

Sundance Journal: ‘Young and Wild’

I don’t normally feel uncomfortable while watching movies, but I did during ‘Young and Wild’. This Chilean movie is the teenage girl edition of ‘Shame’, only with, if you can believe it, more explicit sex.

Sundance Journal: ‘For Ellen’

Sundance Journal: ‘For Ellen’

Despite being slow and indulgent, ‘For Ellen’ is one of those small films that grows stronger after you give it some thought. At first, it may make you stir crazy and leave you wanting more, but after reflecting on it, you’re sure to find the beauty in this methodically intimate and personal story.

Sundance Journal: ‘Price Check’

Sundance Journal: ‘Price Check’

Many of the movies in the Premieres section at this year’s Sundance festival were quite mediocre, and some like ‘Lay the Favorite‘ were just plain terrible. ‘Price Check’ falls into the mediocre category.
