Poll: Will You Watch the 2015 Super Bowl?

For as much as we may seem preoccupied with nerdy stuff like superhero movies, TV shows about zombies, or videogames around here, for many viewers the main purpose of owning a big-screen HDTV is to watch sports. And for most Americans, the Super Bowl is the most important sporting event of the year. Will you watch this Sunday’s game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks?

As a Boston resident, it’s probably sacrilegious of me to say that I don’t care for football (or any sport, really), and couldn’t give a damn about the Patriots. Honestly, if it weren’t for the ridiculous “Deflate-gate” scandal, I might not have even noticed that my hometown team is playing again this year. The only thing that interests me about the Super Bowl is the number of new movie trailers that debut during the commercial breaks, and I can catch those on YouTube the next day.

Nevertheless, I recognize the importance of the Super Bowl as a cultural event. Are you a big football fan? Which team are you rooting for?

Will watch and root for the Seahawks. Not because the Patriots did or didn’t cheat but because I’m a Colts fan so we have 15 years of rivalry and I would never root for them either way.

  2. I DVR it and fast forward to the movie trailers. I don’t usually watch the halftime show. This year I have no clue as to what trailers will be aired or the halftime performance.

Perhaps you meant you are rooting for the Seahawks, hoping that Goodell’s head will explode, if they win?

Goodell will be quite pleased, if the Pats win. Kraft is essentially the “vice-commissioner” and Goodell’s adviser/confidant.

Rarely do I watch Football. We sometimes have it on on Sundays at work for background noise – there is only a few channels we get, so its either watching a local station, a cable news network, Property Brothers, American Pickers or one of the dozen religious stations we get. Truthfully between those choices, it is usually on Daystar on Sundays until a sporting event starts.

But the Superbowl (more like super bowel) starts after I get off. I will either be sleeping, playing video games or watching a movie.

There are some sports I will watch, but in my opinion, Football, Baseball, Golf and Bowling are the most boring televised sports there are.

🙂 Last I checked, high school football doesn’t get televised (except maybe on the local access channels).NFL football bores me to tears – they stop the game way too much for my taste. I think one of the satelite or cable providers does a “game in an hour” where they pretty much show just the plays – I can sometimes sit down and watch those, depending on who is playing. And a high school game is usually over in like two hours. But those NFL games that are 3-4 hours long, nope, not interested.

I have a Super Bowl party at my house every year, so I will definitely be watching along with 20 – 30 other people. I’ve been a Seahawks fan for years ever since I first got into fantasy football and had Sean Alexander on my team for multiple years in a row. I will be watching and rooting for them, but I don’t have any issues with the Patriots, and I think this whole “cheating” scandal is a joke just to give the TV stations something to talk about.

I’m not a fan of either team but I love football in general so I’ll watch the game. Being that I’m a Vikings fan, I’m glad the Packers loss the NFC Champ game but I don’t want to see Seahawks win the bowl again this year. So go Patriots!

While I don’t have a vested interest in either team (I’m a long suffering Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan), I can’t stand the Patriots so I’ll be rooting for the Seahawks on Sunday when I throw my annual Super Bowl party.

I really don’t give a flying F about televised sports, but I did watch the National Championship football game, only because I’m an Ohio State alumnus.

Before the play-off started I put some money on a 34:1 that it’s Seahawks vs Colts, and 38:1 that it’s Seahawks vs Ravens. Ravens lost to the patriots because of patriots’ shady tactic and unfair ref. Colts had zero chance (having lost 42-20 in November, and 43-22 in previous play-off against NE). But patriots still used deflated balls. Having lost both bets because of patriots, I’m rooting for Seahawks. Patriots haven’t won a super bowl after the spygate and hopefully that holds on Sunday.

    The question to ask is:
Which team’s fans will be more annoying if they win?

Seahawks will gloat twice as much with 2 consecutive wins.

But Pats fans will never stop yapping about redemption for
Spygate and Deflategate and nonsense about being the
best-of-all-time (ignoring Steelers and 49ers’ better record
    in Super Bowls).

God help us all if the Pats win. Congratulating Pats fans for
their “best” season going 18 and 1, even that won’t shut
    them up.

Even 49er fans should cheer for the Seahawks.

  10. I hate sports for the most part, only thing I can watch is Hockey and if the Pens are in the playoffs I will watch those, most exciting sport to watch by far IMO. But other than that, everything about sports I really dont like, I’m not a competitive person, I hate how these guys are so looked up to, I hate how much money they make for running or throwing a ball and its really a joke with how bad the league (in football that is) has become over the years, more and more stupid rules, horrible refs and of course the Patriots constantly cheating. Only in football can you cheat and not really have anything done to you it seems.

As for the Superbowl, I’ve been to plenty of parties and usually have fun, but its not because its football, commercials of course and usually the trailers too, but all of those are up online already so I dont even have to bother with much this year at all….yay I have way better things to care about than watching Football and I’ve never figured out America’s obsession with it

It’s sad to have such a negative bent in this survey towards the Superbowl.

In this blog about film and home theater, it natural to be anti-anything-
NOT film or home theater. And it’s the internet, so it’s filled with anonymous
    hate anyway.

Many don’t feel the same about film award shows (the Superbowl for films,
right? Academy Awards). But why spread hate on it? I would hope the
biggest football fan who may also hate the movies, NOT be dick about
    the Academy Awards.

Americans usually come to get to mourn national tragedies (terrorism,
assassinations, elementary school shootings). Why not celebrate the
annual coming together of the largest number for Americans for something
fun and frivolous? So what if you don’t love football? Don’t you love
    community, fellowship?

Movies aren’t made to by one person, to be watched by one person.
    Movies are inherently about community.

As film lovers, the community aspect of Super Bowl, we should be able to
understand that. Why else are you reading a blog, if you don’t care
    about community?

  12. In general I do not like sports. Maybe blame it on high school (??) or just pop culture.
Football – take a game that has 4×15 minute quarters, stretch it to 4 hours minimum. Yawn.
