Weekend Roundtable: Your 2013 in Movie Titles

For the first Roundtable of 2014, we look back over the prior year. We played this game last year and it was a lot of fun, so we’ll try it again. If you had to describe how your past year went using only movie titles (from any year), which titles would you choose?

Shannon Nutt

‘Horrible Bosses’
‘Down and Out in Beverly Hills’
‘Hope Springs’
‘Superman Returns’

Adam Tyner (DVDTalk)

‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’
‘The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’
‘The Beach’
‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’
‘Newsies’
‘Joysticks’
‘Air Bud: Golden Receiver’

When we played this game last year, I mentioned that I’d met an extraordinary woman. I knew that ever since Maggie was a tiny little thing, she’d dreamt of an engagement ring from Tiffany and Co. I made that dream of hers come true, and she did the same for me by agreeing to marry me! A month or so before proposing, we spent a much-needed week in Hilton Head to relax. Late September turned out to be an ideal time of year; the weather was still perfect but we had the beach pretty much to ourselves.

Almost all of the highlights from this year revolve around Maggie, but I guess I could point out a few other things. I just got back yesterday from seeing my oldest friend in the world get hitched. My little internet startup has gotten gobbled up by company after company after company over the past few years, and now I’m part of USA Today‘s extended family. I picked up an Xbox One, a PS4 and a Vita as part of my ploy to own every videogame thingie ever, and I finally replaced my creaky old A/V receiver.

This is starting to read like one of those letters you get from your Aunt Mildred around the holidays, so I’m going to stop now.

Preview of things to come in 2014: I’m sure I’ll dust off ‘Wedding Daze’ again as a choice, and I might have to add on ‘The Money Pit’ as I try to reshape my current house into something wife-friendly.

M. Enois Duarte

‘One Crazy Summer’
‘Crazy, Stupid, Love.’
‘The Hangover’
‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’

‘(500) Days of Summer’
‘He’s Just Not That into You’
‘High Fidelity’
‘The Break-Up’

Josh Zyber

‘Moving’
‘The Money Pit’
‘Cinema Paradiso’
‘Carry on Doctor’
‘Weird Science’
‘Baby Boom’
‘Great Expectations’
‘Waiting’

Not sure about mine but one quickly comes to mind for JZ’s entire year given how it started and then how it ended…Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

  2. William Henley

Man, I don’t even want to ask Mike to explain his titles. I am going to cheat and throw in a few television shows as well.

    My year ended with:
    Fireproof
    Backdraft
    I Shouldn’t Be Alive

The rest of 2013 was pretty good:
    Office Space
    Joyful Noise
    The Apostle
    The IT Crowd
    Frozen Planet
Constantine (If you have to ask, you probably wouldn’t understand anyways)
    The Secret of My Success
    The Sound of Music

Josh, you share enough of your personal life in the blog throughout the year, so your entries of this Roundtable topic are decipherable.

Luke Hickman and Adam Tyner, by providing some details, we can make sense of your writing.

But Daniel, Mike, Shannon, and E, how can we follow what you wrote?! Unless we are stalkers of you, you might as well have written a random list of movie titles, and give a wink, wink to Josh for making this holiday week Roundtable topic: easy peasy.
