Statuesque: 2012 Oscar Predictions – Visual Categories

It’s Oscar week, and that means that it’s time to make some guesses about who will take home awards on Sunday night. I’ll start with the visual categories. So many pretty films, so little time… Let’s get to it, shall we?

‘Fringe’ 4.13 Recap: “The Hubris of Trying to Improve Upon God”

‘Fringe’ 4.13 Recap: “The Hubris of Trying to Improve Upon God”

I don’t typically pay much attention to TV ratings. That’s something for network execs to stress about, not me. However, when shows that I like are on the so-called “bubble” for renewal, it’s worth checking in every once in a while to see how well or badly they’re doing. Unfortunately, ‘Fringe’ is doing very badly this season, even compared to last season, which wasn’t so hot to begin with. The situation looks pretty dire. Although Fox will let the show play out to the end of this current season, another renewal after that seems unlikely. Of course, I said that last year too, so who can predict what will really happen? In the meantime, Friday brought a new episode that both gave us a case-of-the-week and moved the ongoing storyline forward.

Home Theater Headaches

Home Theater Headaches

We’ve all, I’m sure, experienced those days where it feels like the entire universe is actively conspiring against us. Last week, my home theater system did its best to drive me insane, all over what would turn out to be, essentially, nothing. I need an aspirin.

Get Ready for the 2012 Oscars Live-Blog!

Yes, we’re doing it again. Join us this Sunday, February 26th for The Bonus View‘s second annual Oscars Live-Blog! With last-minute replacement Billy Crystal hosting for the 74th time, not to mention a huge assortment of behind-the-scenes fiascoes with the production, the ceremony itself promises to be yet another overlong, self-important and generally boring slog, if not an outright clusterfrack. We will do our best here to liven up the proceedings by making fun of them and giving away lots of free Blu-ray goodies! Don’t miss out!

‘The Walking Dead’ 2.09 Recap: “Who the Hell Is That?”

‘The Walking Dead’ 2.09 Recap: “Who the Hell Is That?”

This week’s episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ begins where we left off, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the daylight. The last episode ended with Rick dispatching two real live humans with copious amounts of light streaming in through the bar windows, but at the start of this episode, right after the gunfire, darkness has descended on the town in mere seconds. Darkness comes fast in Zombieland, I guess.

Videogame Releases: Week of February 19th, 2012

It’s time to get excited. The release of the PlayStation Vita is upon us. Also being released are a glut of launch titles, a few of which actually look pretty impressive. While already existing consoles aren’t getting anything worth talking about (an exercise in quick time events and another FPS version of a tactical PC game), the 3DS version of ‘Metal Gear’ may prove worthy of a purchase for fans.

Weekend Box Office: Who Makes These B.O. Estimates?!

Weekend Box Office: Who Makes These B.O. Estimates?!

Last weekend’s box office forecast was blown out of the water by the supercharged openings of ‘The Vow‘, ‘Safe House‘ and ‘Journey 2‘, but this week’s supposedly clear winner closed out the weekend in the #4 spot, $9 million under expectations. It’s like they asked my local weatherman to make the box office predictions!
