The Netflix Stream: Week of July 3rd, 2011

The good news is that there isn’t much leaving the Netflix stream this week. The bad news is that there isn’t much entering the stream this week either. This is just one of those lazy summer weeks where nothing’s really happening.

Leaving the Stream
  1. ‘The Jewel of the Nile’ (7/11): When a movie franchise reaches a ridiculous level of success, it’s inevitable that similar films will follow. ‘The Jewel of the Nile‘ is the sequel to ‘Romancing the Stone’, which fought hard to earn some cash from audiences wanting more movies like ‘Indiana Jones’. The flicks aren’t bad, all things considered. And since ‘Romancing the Stone’ is still available on Netflix, this might be a good time to give the movies a shot.
  2. ‘Powder Blue’ (7/9): There are a few things that I know about ‘Powder Blue‘. The first is that the cast includes Patrick Swayze, whose presence guarantees that I’ll see the film at some point. The second is that Jessica Biel plays a stripper, which gives the flick even greater appeal. Reviews are iffy, but the impressive cast means that is one to check out anyway.
Entering the Stream
  1. ‘The Tourist’ (7/10): That’s how little is coming to Netflix this week. ‘The Tourist‘ was panned by critics and audiences alike, but that wouldn’t be as big a deal if there wasn’t such a strong cast. Depp, Jolie, Bettany and Dalton are names that compel me to watch.
  2. ‘Navy Seals’ (7/8): I’m going to skip right over whatever obvious Charlie Sheen jokes are available, because I just flat-out couldn’t care less about the dude. I will, however, go straight to YouTube for a clip from ‘Clerks’. It’s nearly everything I know about ‘Navy Seals‘, and it probably does more to guarantee I’ll never see the movie than any number of reviews.
