Remember that ‘Mortal Kombat’ Short? It’s Getting a Web Series.

‘Mortal Kombat’ has never been a favorite series of mine, but the web short ‘Mortal Kombat: Rebirth’ made me excited for more. Thankfully, there will be more, in the form of a web series coming this spring.

Director Kevin Tancharoen made waves throughout the gaming industry with a short film called ‘Mortal Kombat: Rebirth‘. It took some of the most loved characters from the game series and put them on screen in a way we’ve never seen before. They weren’t cheesy or campy or goofy or over CG’ed. They were just plain good.

Warner has announced that Tancharoen is going to be making more to follow-up on this, in an official capacity this time. A series of short films will be hitting the internet to give fans more insight into the history of their favorite characters including Scorpion, Johnny Cage and Liu Kang.

Shooting will start in February in Vancouver, Canada. Warner plans to release these videos as a build-up to a brand new ‘Mortal Kombat’ game.

I can’t say that I’m excited about the game. The ‘Mortal Kombat’ series hasn’t captured my interest since back in the ’90s. Unless there are some big changes to the franchise, I don’t see that changing. I can’t wait to check out the shorts, though.

Time to watch ‘Mortal Kombat: Rebirth‘ yet again!
