Monster Madness: Killer Rabbit vs. Stripe – Cthulhu vs. Vermithrax

As I write this, the Monster Madness battle between the Balrog and Gamera is still too close to call. That fight will come down to the wire. In Tuesday’s other match, the Predator easily hunted down and dismembered poor old Grendel. Today, we find out if a Gremlin is any contest for a killer rabbit, and what happens when you mix a mean dragon with an even meaner evil deity.

Both of these combatants have had good runs. Popularity has had a hand in each of these monsters winning their prospective matches, but it’s not like they’ve been coasting along. Both have ample means to dispatch of their competition. What happens now is anyone’s guess.

Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog – So tiny, so fluffy, so cute… and so evil. Never take your kids to the Caerbannog petting zoo. It’ll be the last outing your family ever has. For such a tiny monster, this bunny packs a horrific bite.

Secret Weapon: Is there any other monster in the tournament so efficient at killing? The Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog flies into the air and rips its foe’s jugular apart in seconds.

Stripe – He’s taken out a dinosaur that spits dangerous venom, and a gang of killer Critters. Now he has his sights set on this seemingly cute bunny. Will Stripe’s strategic mind be able to outsmart the sheer killing ferocity of the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog?

Secret Weapon: The rabbit is a stone cold killer. It doesn’t care who stands there, death to every living thing. Stripe’s weapon is his cunning and ability to formulate devastating plans. But will he have time before his neck spews blood like a broken fire hydrant?

There have been quite a few rounds where spelling out the names of the monsters became taxing on my fingers. This round, however, takes the cake in that respect. Sheesh!

As the tournament progresses, I find myself less inclined to make predictions on which monster will win. I know that Cthulhu is something of a cosmic badass, but Vermithrax Pejorative is no pushover either. Can the dragon give the squid face a run for its money?

Cthulhu – I don’t know what else to say about him/it/WTF? Every picture you see of Cthulhu is more frightening and nightmarish than the last. Sometimes I feel like including this monster makes the whole tournament a little lopsided.

Secret Weapon: In the last Cthulhu round we posted, I asked if any readers could give me more insight into its powers. This is what commentor Gareth Callenby had to say: “Most of his horrifying nature rests in his long-distance telepathic sway over any human with any mental instability. In the flesh, he can unhinge any human’s mind, likely due to the awful nature of his deity.” So, he may look like a killing machine, but one has to wonder if this power would hold much sway over a fire-breathing dragon.

Vermithrax Pejorative – Let’s just make this short and sweet. This is a big-ass dragon with anger issues. Simple enough.

Secret Weapon: It’s a flying fiery beast of living death. Do you really want to mess with that?

Cthulhu is also able to allow physical objects (at least, those from our plane of existence) to pass through its own bulk. Intangibility at will may give Cthulhu the upper talon.
