Videogame Releases for the Week of June 20th, 2010

You know that stack of games you haven’t finished? If you didn’t get to them last week, now’s the time. It’s bad this week, with the single exception of a puzzle game for the DS. To be fair, though, it’s one hell of a puzzle game.

This week may look bleak, but hold fast. ‘Lego Harry Potter’ and ‘Naughty Bear’ are coming soon.

Puzzle Quest 2 (DS)

The first ‘Puzzle Quest’ game is still a favorite of mine despite its flaws. It’s one of the rare games that I actually purchased twice – once for the Xbox 360 and once for the PSP. It’s fun, it’s got those RPG elements all the kids seem to love, and it’s got some downright addictive mechanics. ‘Puzzle Quest 2’ is said to be streamlined. I love that in my ‘Final Fantasy,’ but I’m not so sure about streamlining a game that I played in 5-10 minute intervals in the first place. Either way, I’ll be picking up ‘Puzzle Quest 2’ for the DS. If you don’t own a DS, it’s not time to get excited yet. ‘Puzzle Quest 2’ won’t be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade until next week.

Transformers: War for Cybertron (360, DS, PC, PS3, Wii)

No matter how good a ‘Transformers’ game looks – and this one looks a little better than most – they’re just so hard to get excited about. Am I jaded because of the awful ‘Transformers‘ movies? Hell yes, I am. The other thing that just seems off about ‘War for Cybertron’ is that it’s really hard to tell one thing from another. When everything in the world is just a bunch of weird metal bits slapped together, your characters are a bunch of weird metal bits slapped together, and your enemies are a bunch of weird metal bits slapped together, it all gets a little confusing. That’s not just me, right?
