Mid-Week Poll: Which December 2013 Movies Are You Excited To See?

Along with beaming children, the warm embrace of families, holiday cheer and all that nonsense, the end of the year also brings with it a bunch of big new movie releases. December is traditionally a time when Hollywood rolls out a bunch of potential blockbusters and Oscar hopefuls. Which movies this month do you look forward to watching?

Personally, there’s next to no chance that I’ll get out to a movie theater this month. I’ll have my hands full with other, more pressing concerns. Even if that weren’t the case, however, I have to say that this is probably the least exciting slate of year-end films in recent memory.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m not interested in any of them, though. I’ll always give new films from Martin Scorsese or the Coen brothers the benefit of the doubt. Spike Jonze’s ‘Her’ sounds bizarre and intriguing, and I’ll hold out hope that ‘Anchorman 2’ is a worthy follow-up. I might even be willing to give David O. Russell another chance to win me back over with ‘American Hustle’. Still, there’s not a single one of these movies that I couldn’t wait until Blu-ray to see.

Do you feel differently? Which of these movies excite you? Vote for as many options as you’d like.

I’m most looking forward to Lone Survivor.

Then, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug and 47 Ronin. Wolf on Wall Street looks good.

Others, I may see are: Anchorman 2 and Saving Mr. Banks.

I’m very intereted in ’47 Ronin’, which seems well suited for watching in a movie theater.

I’m most interested in ‘Wolf of Wallstreet’ & ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’, but I don’t mind waiting for the BD releases.

“The Hobbit” and “Saving Mr Banks” for me.

Last movie I went to (don’t remember what it was off the top of my head) they showed a trailer for Believe….. and I found it strangely interesting. Not interesting enough that I would go see it, but interesting enough that if I were flipping through the channels and landed on it like 5 minutes in not knowing what it was, I might actually end up watching it. It doesn’t look like one of those concert films that have come out over the last several years, but actually a biography. That might be interesting.

What are the odds that Anchorman 2 will be any good? I loved the first one, but the trailers for this just look like the same jokes over again, and Will Ferrell has been on a major losing streak recently.

  5. I’m not terribly excited for American Hustle (didn’t like The Fighter or Silver Linings Playbook), but my dad wants to see it and a theater here is having a screening next Tuesday so I bought tickets for us. Can’t wait for Wolf Of Wall Street. It’s been an agonizing few months before Christmas to see it. Also interested in Her and Inside Llewyn Davis. Lots of garbage coming out, but I see Lone Survivor made NBR’s top 10, so I’m compelled to see that now. Wouldn’t have otherwise.

  6. American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street are must-sees for me. Everything else I can do without, although I’ll probably also see The Hobbit and Saving Mr. Banks.

As for Anchorman 2, I thought the first Anchorman was horrible – I have no idea who thought a sequel was warranted (other than the actors).

The Wolf Of Wall Street for me. I could not care less about stuff with short creatures and ring and such. American Hustle looks interesting too.

I started out totally disinterested in Saving Mr. Banks….NOW I’m ticked that it’s NOT part of the Mary Poppins 45th Anniversary Blu Ray!!!!! The gall of some people!
