Would You Agree to Wear Special Glasses Even for 2-D?

Would You Agree to Wear Special Glasses Even for 2-D?

Even for people who genuinely like 3-D, the need to wear 3-D glasses is a nuisance at best. No one actually likes wearing the glasses. Recently, Sharp announced that its new line of Quattron TVs will allow different viewers in the same room to watch the same screen in either 2-D or 3-D at will simultaneously. The catch: Everyone still has to wear the glasses.

Inching Ever Closer to the Third Dimension

Inching Ever Closer to the Third Dimension

I’ve been saying for a while now that I’d like to update my home theater to 3-D capability sometime in the near future, but actually integrating it into my theater room will be a challenge. I have no space for a large new TV (my primary HD display is a projector), and the 3-D projector offerings up to now haven’t quite satisfied my requirements. Now, new product announcements from JVC and OPPO Digital are making it very difficult to put this off much longer.

Wider Is Better

Wider Is Better

I recently posted about the Philips Cinema 21:9 TV, which is the first (and currently only) HDTV designed in a wider aspect ratio to support Constant Image Height display. Now, a company from Norway has done that one better by announcing at CEDIA the world’s first native 2.35:1 projector. This has certainly gotten my attention. Not yet known at this point: Will it be sold in the U.S., and for how much?

Not Bad. Let Me Know When JVC Is Ready.

Just yesterday, I was saying that I’d like to upgrade to 3-D in my home theater, but don’t expect to replace my projector anytime soon. Hence I’d need to add a secondary TV to the room, most likely off to the side. Well, now Sony has gone and announced a new 3-D projector that almost has me eating my words. Almost.

What Do You Mean, “Not Available in America”?

What Do You Mean, “Not Available in America”?

For a while now, I’ve made a point of highlighting the advantages of 2.35:1 Constant Image Height display in my weekly HD Advisor column here at High-Def Digest. I project onto a 2.35:1 screen in my own home theater. While I’m happy as a projector user, I’ve also kept my eye on the Philips “Cinema 21:9″ LCD TV. Now that the company has added 3-D capability to the set, that makes it (for me) by far the most appealing 3-D TV on the market. There’s just one small problem: It’s not sold in North America!
