Blu-ray Highlights for December 26th, 2012 – At a Loss for… Umm, You Know…

Welcome back from the holiday! I guess the Mayans were wrong about the end of the world happening on Friday, huh? Did y’all get everything you wanted from Santa (or Hanukkah Harry) this year? If not… well, unfortunately there’s not much new to look at today. It’s the day after Christmas, and the only people going out to stores are those returning or exchanging unwanted gifts. The home video studios know this, and haven’t bothered to schedule much of anything for release this week. This will be a pretty short post, but for the sake of thoroughness, I felt that I should fill you in on the four (yes, only four!) new titles available on Blu-ray, just in case a few of you out there happen to be fans.

Which Blu-rays Interest You This Week (12/26/12)?

When it played at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of the year, ‘The Words‘ built a lot of buzz as a potential breakout hit for star Bradley Cooper. At the time, Luke said that he thought the movie was pretty good up until it fell apart at the end. By the time it hit general release, most critics had a similar mixed reaction. Like most movies that get over-hyped at Sundance, real audiences greeted the film with total indifference. It came and went from theaters in a blink, and will likely disappear into a similar void on video. Sony hasn’t exactly exhibited much confidence in it by dumping it in stores this week.

That’s pretty much it for notable titles. Kino has the French romantic drama ‘The Well Digger’s Daughter‘, which similarly vanished from limited release here after a moderately successful film festival run.

FUNimation churns out one of those direct-to-video animated tie-ins to the ‘Mass Effect‘ videogame, if you’re into that sort of thing. And WWE brings us more wrestling.

None of these does much for me. Do any of them appeal more to you?

  1. Nothing for me this week. As for last week, yeah, I did end up picking up Babes In Toyland – it came in today. Pretty much, when things get slow like this, I start going back through my Amazon wishlist and picking up movies that I missed. Like I also finally picked up Scrooge. I am thinking about getting The Hunger Games because it was on sale last time I looked yesterday.
