SteelBook Alert: Do the Batusi

If Marvel’s big superhero smackdown movie this year can get a Blu-ray SteelBook, then so can DC’s. In fact, let’s give it a couple!

‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’

Best Buy is pulling an interesting stunt with this one. You can purchase a SteelBook with your choice of either Batman or Superman themed artwork. However, the case is actually reversible. It has both sets of artwork on it, one on the front and one on the back. You can simply flip it over to prioritize whichever version you want.

Why bother listing separate editions for sale, then? I assume that perhaps the movie title printed on the spine will face opposite directions depending on which you choose. [Update: Nope, the cases are identical even in this regard. The only difference between them is which direction the cardboard backer was placed before the shrinkwrap was applied.]

Note that both SteelBooks include only the 2D version of the movie.

HMV in the UK will sell essentially the same SteelBook with the addition of a 3D disc inside. Unfortunately, HMV will not ship outside of the UK.

‘Warcraft’

Duncan Jones’ hugely expensive videogame adaptation may have been a blockbuster in China, but it was a flop almost everywhere else, including the United States. Walmart will nonetheless carry a SteelBook. I don’t know anything about either the game or the movie, but I assume these sigils are meaningful to fans. The case looks pretty handsome.

Available at: Walmart
Release date: TBD
Price: $18.54
Region code: TBD

Warcraft SteelBook

Once again, the American SteelBook will contain only the 2D version of the movie. For 3D, you’ll have to look overseas. UK retailer Zoom has the same SteelBook plus 3D. Sadly, Zoom also doesn’t ship outside the UK.

Available at: Zoom
Release date: Oct. 10, 2016
Price: £22.99
Region code: TBD

I almost got duped by Best Buy. After some research, I decided that the two listings were for the same product and didn’t order two copies. Unlike, when Best Buy did Steelbooks for Avengers: Age of Ulton (Vision and Ultron covers), where you had to order both.

As Josh said, the two may be slightly different.

Does the Deadpool Steelbook’s spine bother you?
That could be the indicator of specifying which
      version to buy.

The Warcraft Sigils are for ‘The Alliance’ (Left) which is made up the Humans and Dwarves and ‘The Horde’ (Right) which is made up of the Orcs and Trolls. This movie only concentrated on the Humans and the Orcs, although the Dwarves were seen… At the end of this movie, the Alliance is formed with the Dwarves and other Human cities to fend off the Orcish invasion.

I liked the movie which is based on WarCraft II: The Tides of Darkness. This game began using Modem to Modem to play “online”. But, then Blizzard offered anyone with a copy a free disc of the Updated “Battle.Net version” which allowed users to connect via Blizzard Servers! This allowed for more than two players and exchanges of custom maps. I was given the original CD by a friend who already beat the single-player missions and was able to get the upgrade free. The aforementioned friend actually purchased the Battle.Net Edition and returned to playing it.

Everyone who panned the movie expected the ‘World of WarCraft’ storyline which has greatly expanded in lands, characters and new races. Should there be a WarCraft sequel, they could move into the very dense mythology of the universe.

The movie is loosely based on Warcraft 1 though, not Warcraft 2. I really liked the movie and as a fan, I really hate that this flopped. Did fairly well everywhere else outside the US though.

Well, I do have friends in the UK that I could probably have stuff shipped to, but then they would have to turn around and ship to the US, and that’s expensive for an individual (My guess would be around $20 shipping, as that is about what it costs me to ship to ship letter-sized envelope to Europe and Asia).

The Warcraft Steelbook is amazing! Sadly, the movie sucked, so I won’t be picking that up. I haven’t seen Batman vs Superman yet (I actually haven’t seen many movies this year – back in school, which has kept me very busy). The Steelbook is okay, but no 3D, no sale.

I must say, I sure am glad I bought a region free Blu-Ray player – especially with Disney, I think I have bought more discs from the UK than I have domestically. Sadly, the UK Disney Movie codes don’t work in the US, and you got to play some tricks to register your Europe Ultraviolet copies to your US accounts.

No 3D no sale? Shouldnt matter really, once you watch the ultimate edition, which is only in 2D you wont want to watch the theatrical 3D cut anyways, trust me on this one, its a better film. I’m skipping the 3D version all together because I simply will never watch the theatrical cut again

I’m a HUGE fan of 3D movies, and find that a solid 3D presentation can elevate (for me) a mediocre movie to enjoyable (‘Poltergeist 2015’, ‘San Andreas’)…that being said, I agree with you 100%. I watched both cuts (in 2D), and the material included in the Ultimate Edition has such a huge impact on the story (and in turn, tone) that it feels like two different films. 3D is not worth the loss of this material.

Ironically – no matter which cover of BvS you order, you are still stuck with the movie Batman v Superman.
    Lose-Lose situation.
