There seems to be some kind of unwritten law that today’s movie posters must feature a “floating head” design that cries out, “These people are in the movie. Please come see it.” Fortunately, an underground exists where movie posters transcend their horrid marketing mandates and attempt to capture the essence that makes a movie compelling. The new book ‘Alternative Movie Posters: Film Art from the Underground’ showcases film after film with posters that say: “I am a badass movie that, once seen, cannot be unseen. Other movies live beneath me.”
The book’s author, Matthew Chojnacki, has a fascination with this kind of album art media. He describes the pieces that he chose for this book as “bringing the art back to the one-sheet.” His book has over 200 posters drawn from sources all over the internet, such as these:
